Summary: I love my Kindle
Comment: Just got it the other day, everything I've read is pretty much correct. It has a minor ergnomic flaw in that it is tricky to pickup without hitting the "next page" button but I don't really care because this is the coolest device I own. I love it!

By the way, it seems to me the best thing about reading with Kindle (aside from the amazingly beautiful screen and endless battery) is that you can browse amazon for hours at a time and download free samples of books. I would caution you though that buying this device will probably make you end up buying (and reading) a lot more books that usual.

Summary: The Kindle is the iPod of the book
Comment: I bought the Kindle 2 months ago, and after reading 6 books on it, and the Wall Street Journal on a daily basis, i am very very pleased with my purchase. Of course, being a first generation product, there are some points that could be improved: - page size is a little bit short, it seems you have to hit the Next Page button very often; Next Page and Prev Page buttons are too long making it difficult to hold the Kindle with one hand; the keyboard is too big, a cover would be great; it is not waterproof, you can't bring it to the beach or read in your bath; reading the WSJ on the Kindle is a great experience but they need to revamp the way it is presented as it is hard to see important news, and to jump to the sections you are interested in; ability to take notes would be a great feature.
In conclusion, all those points can be easily improved, and if it was not for the price (a little bit high) and for the ability to get all contents on the device, I would buy one for each member of my family. Imagine your kids not having to carry all there books in a backpack and having the ability to lookup every word they don't understand at the push of a button. (The Lookup menu allow you to get definition of words from Wikipedia, Dictionary, or the Web directly from the Kindle. One of the best feature of the Kindle).
The Kindle is an outstanding product and concept, and Amazon just needs to continue improving it.

Summary: Great but lacking
Comment: This is a great product [ASIN:B000FI73MA Kindle: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device]]but I wish it had the following:
1. Backlighting. I am not sure why such a great item doesn't have something as simple as backlighting. I find that I have to put on the lamp in order to read even in the early afternoon. Who wants to add a booklight? Every product out today has the ability to be read in the dark
2. Contrast adjustment. Very simply, the ability to change the contrast when necessary
3. Access to font sizing anywhere and anytime
4. Page relationship to actual book or article. I was reading an article and tried to find it on my Kindle and wasted 30 minutes trying to locate the same page.
5. On/Off buttons on the front! Who wants to remove the Kindle from the cover every time you want to turn it on or off?
6. Would like the ability to lock off the next/back page button on either side so I don't accidentally press it.

Love the quick downloading of books and mags! Love the ability to load quantities of books!

Summary: I'm a Kindle Kid
Comment: I love this thing. Absolutely love it. To say I've taken it to bed with me is not a lie--I've fallen asleep more than once while reading, which is the perfect indicator that this is the most book-like an electronic reader can get. The design is great, sleek and slim to fit in most any bag (priceless to have for doctors' offices, vacations, and subway rides). The added features are lovely--dictionary look-up is my favorite, allowing me to be able to have pretentious discussions and UNDERSTAND what was meant in that last pretentious book I just read. Adding notes is helpful as well, so I'm not just looking at something I highlighted and thinking, "Now WHY was that important?"

A pricey investment for the average reader, but for someone who likes to keep dozens of books at their fingertips, definitely worthwhile. And for someone like me, who takes 20 pounds of literature whether it's a weekend or a week-long trip, priceless.

Summary: Great device, lousy warranty
Comment: I got my Kindle as a present for my 40th birthday. I read a lot, so it was a great gift. I canceled various magazine subscription to move them to the Kindle. I bought books. I read.

Then I took it on vacation.

My wife, by mistake, leaned on it.

She broke the screen to the point where I can't see much text.

Amazon tells me that effective August 1, they've stopped replacing broken devices and that there is no repair program. So that means I now own a $350 brick. They won't replace it or repair it.

So beware before you buy!
